In a study performed by the Foundation Migrantes'Abruzzo our region is the land of emigration. In recent data this year the citizens of the region registered AIRE, the Register of Italians living abroad are 179,715. The incidence, the total population is 13.5%. In Italy only five: Basilicata, Calabria, Molise, Sicily and Friuli Venezia Giulia show a higher rate of emigration.

THE PRIZE “AQUILA D’ORO” ("GOLDEN EAGLE") 2016 TO NANCY PELOSI

The ex "speaker" (President) of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has received one of the three awards “Aquila d’oro” ("Golden Eagle") in 2016, arrived at the 11th edition. The other two ones went to RAI journalist of L’Aquila Aurelio Capaldi and to the ambassador and ex Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi from Sant'Agata. Ms Pelosi has Abruzzo-Ligurian origins: his paternal grandfather, Tommaso Fedele D'Alessandro, emigrated to the U.S. from Montenerodomo (Chieti), while the grandmother Maria Petronilla Foppiani was from Rovegno (Genoa). Pelosi received the award in Rome in the U.S. Ambassador John Phillips’s residence.

There is no doubt that Ignazio Silone, among the Italians writers of the twentieth century, remains to this day one of the most known, studied and translated author in the world, starting with the publication of his first novel, Fontamara, which occurred in Switzerland in 1933, in first edition in German translation. It is a further proof of the recent publication of two important books, one published in Abruzzo and one abroad, in Canada, which, albeit in different form one from each other, offer very original contributions to the study and knowledge of very little suspected or distorted issues of the complex human and literary personality of this great writer of Abruzzo, who always felt his very strong attachment to the homeland, his land of origin.

MEETING ABRUZZO YOUTH IN THE WORLD FROM 28 OCTOBER IN CASOLI

On the occasion of the Open Day "winter" and in conjunction with ordinary meetings of the Regional Council of Abruzzo people in the World - C.R.A.M., the International Meeting of Abruzzo young people in the World will take place in Casoli (in the photo), in the province of Chieti since 28 to 31 October. FROM CEPAGATTI "A HAND FOR AMATRICE”

The City Council, Cisom (Italian Corps of aid of the Order of Malta), the parish, and the entire community of Cepagatti will tend "A hand to Amatrice" to equip the school of teaching materials and of the necessary furniture. The event will be held Sunday, September 18, since 15 o’clock to 20, in all the streets of the historic center of the city that will be transformed into a large children's play area with bouncyplays, face painting, clowns, stilt walkers, falconers, archers, horses, donkeys and art workshops. You could participate with a minimum bid of 2.50 euro, a small contribution that will give the opportunity to children to make free use of the games and the shows in program. Indefatigable engine of the initiative was Santina Salvatore, a volunteer of 37 years of Cisom, native of Foggia but resident in Cepagatti, returned a little over a week from Amatrice.

STORIES OF EMIGRATION, FROM PESCARA THE ORIGINS OF MUSICIAN FRANCK MANCINI

“Geremia Mancini, honorary president of the cultural association "Ambassadors of hunger, brings to the fore a new Abruzzo character" for a migration not to forget.” It is Francesco Nicola Mancini born in Serramonacesca (Pescara) road the Church, January 13, 1886  at Cesidio’s (pharmacist) and Teresa Simonelli (owner). At the registration of the birth certificate was present the mayor Lattanzio Luigi. Francesco Nicola was the first of six children. Since he was a child he seemed predestined for music. He learned the first rudiments of music, most of all the Clarinet, in his village from an old orchestra. Later, just at age 19, he entered the band of Chieti. Then he played in some of the best Italian bands.
